“Madam, main jaati abhi,” said Kamala. It was only then when I lifted my head from the laptop and looked at my wall clock. Oops- it was already 10 mins past 6 pm, which is the time when Kamala was supposed to leave. Huh, what a tiring day it was! I was working from home because my daughter wasn’t well. She had 101 degrees fever, and so I had been giving her just Crocin since last evening. She was active and chirpy till the afternoon. So I was not much worried.

But wait a minute - she is in deep sleep now. Her body is red and hot. I quickly took out the thermometer from my cupboard’s drawer to check her temperature, and it showed 103 degrees. I thought to myself. “I can’t wait anymore.” I then called up our family doctor and wrote down the name of the antibiotic that he prescribed, on a post-it note. But I can’t leave her alone and go out to get it. So I sent Kamala with the post-it note to get the medicine from our residential society’s pharmacy. She came back in some time with the medicine bottle and some change money. She handed over the medicine to me as I was putting wet pattis on my little one’s forehead. And guess what? At that moment my little angel did something that left me speechless. She slowly opened her eyes and murmured with a faint smile on her face, “Aunty, thank you!”
