Tit For Tat

Once upon a time there lived a linen weaver in Lantern Yard. His name was Silas Marner. He was religious, faithful kind and honest person. Silas used to go to church every day.He was engaged to a poor merchant girl, Sarah. Before getting married they were doing some savings for a happy married life. He had a very close friend William Dane. Silas trusted him a lot but he showed his true color very soon.

Silas had a disease of epilepsy fit and when going through the fit he seemed to be like a dead person.

One day William and Silas were given duty to take of senior deacon at night as he (deacon) was very ill.

Silas was on his duty, sitting on a chair beside deacon's bed, suddenly he was caught by an epilepsy fit. Meanwhile William came ,he stole Silas pocket knife and Church money kept in deacon's room , With the Silas knife he murder deacon. When Silas came out of his fit he saw that deacon was dead, he called all church members and also asked Dane for not coming to perform his duty. When they all came to room, William falsely accused Silas for murdering senior deacon. Silas had no words as his faithful friend was falsely accusing him instead of handling the situation. Church members also started accusing as Silas pocket knife was found in a drawer beside deacon's bed but Silas was resisting by shouting and telling everyone that he had done nothing.

By the draw of lots , he was thrown out of church. Sarah too broke her engagement with Silas and married William Dane.

Silas left Lantern Yard forever and shifted to the village Raveloe. Fourteen years ago he had been carrying on his profession of weaving. He lose all his faith from religion and friendship, he was no more a social person. He continuously worked on his loom like a spider.

After fourteen years in Raveloe, his life took a change. He became a rich person. He worked so hard as a weaver that the heap of guines started increasing and two pots filled with it.

One day he went out late at night, it was raining all day but he had to brought a fine piece of linen as he was going to start fresh work next morning.

He had a false sense of security, although he used to lock the gate of his cottage but that particular night he didn't.

Dunstan Cass , son of Squire Cass( a richest person of Raveloe used to live in a big red house) was passing through his cottage and attracted by the light of fire coming out his cottage, he found that door was open , he entered the cottage and steal Silas money and ran away. But due to intense darkness he fell into heap.

Godfrey , elder brother of Dunstan Cass fall in love with Nancy Lammeter, a beautiful charming beauty of Raveloe . He wanted to marry her but he already had a opium addict wife Molly Farren and a two year daughter named Eppie which was a top secret, only Dunstan knew it and he always took advantage of it and blackmail him.

Silas was very much disturbed due to lost of his gold . One day in dark night Molly Farren was going to Red house to tell the secret of his marriage with Godfrey to Squire.

Because of dosage of opium he died and Eppie entered into Silas cottage .

Silas was going through fit , when came out , suddenly realised that he got his gold back because Eppie had a golden brown hair. When touched it was the golden hair of a pretty girl. Silas got a daughter Eppie which filled the place of his gold.

Silas got what he deserved and Dunstan met his end , his skeleton was found after sixteen years and Silas got his gold back.
