Meena was struggling to beat the Clock. She woke up late that day, by a mere 10 minutes. She could complete her morning duties only at 8.45 a.m. that day and started for work just after her hubby and kids left, quite unlike her daily schedule. That extra ten minutes proved costly.
As Meena was ready to lock the house, She, the Guest arrived, asking for change of Rs.500/- note. Now, this lady was not a regular at their house. She rarely visited others and nobody had seen the face of this reticent one-month old member of the Neighborhood.
The visitor barged into the house even as Meena was politely saying that she did not have any change and that she had to rush to Office immediately. Meena usually was point blank to most people which was her basic nature. But this time she let Sheila, because that was her name, enter without much protesting not understanding why she was doing so.
The Guest looked around as if she knew every part of the house. She started pulling out stuff from the kitchen drawers and the clothes line. She demanded why the furniture was moved.
Meena froze as if she saw a Ghost! Was it….?
She ruminated the scenes from her past - A husband pushing his wife out of the house calling her unmentionable names, the astonished eyes of the wife as she walked past her own gate of many years towards a destination unknown and Meena’s own glee at this pathetic sight.
Meena had been successful in sowing seeds of distrust between the meek Sheila and her husband then. She also remembered how she slowly planned her own entry into the household some twelve years ago and settling down into Marital bliss there after her own kids were born.
Now Sheila was rummaging the Bedroom.
Meena returned from the past but entered another world, not of death, but insanity which neither her husband, his ex-wife nor the kids could enter!
