The Midnight Call
The Midnight Call
That day Rupesh, a young boy of 20 was alone at his house. His mom and dad had gone to attend a relative's marriage ceremony which was being held at their village. The village was far away from the city. So, there was no possibility of them returning to the city that night.
Their maid, Kamala went to her home after preparing dinner for Rupesh. Around 7 pm or so, Rupesh was busy with his phone in his bedroom. He heard someone's footsteps coming from the living room towards the staircase. He kept hearing the footsteps for a few minutes. Then Rupesh went to see if someone had entered his house. Surprisingly, the main door was shut and no one was there. He got scared a little. But he let it go off his mind.
After finishing his dinner, Rupesh sat in the living room to watch TV. He talked to his mom on phone. She said that they would come back in the morning. Then he switched off the TV and went to the bed. Around 12 am in the night, his phone rang. It was his mom's call. Why would she call him now that too at midnight? Rupesh picked up the phone. Even then he was half asleep. His mother told him that they had returned from the village and were outside the house. Rupesh went down the staircase and opened up the main door. "You
were going to come back tomorrow morning, weren't you? Why did you come back at late night?"
His dad said, "beta you were alone. So we thought of coming back."
Then Rupesh's dad and mom went to their room to take a rest, after all, they were tired after such a long journey. All of them slept.
The next morning, it was 8:45 am on the clock when Rupesh woke up from sleep. There was a knock on the door. He went to open the door. And what he saw was really astonishing. His dad and mom were standing on the doorstep.
You people got up so early. Where did you go? And how was the door locked from inside? I just woke up now."
"What are you saying beta?
Are you still asleep? Don't you know that we had gone to a marriage yesterday? We have just arrived here."
"What?? You had already come at night, didn't you? And mom had also called me around 12 to open up the door."
"But beta, why would I call you at midnight?", his mother said.
Rupesh rushed straight to his room in order to check his phone, but the call log didn't show his mother calling him around 12 O'Clock.
His parents assumed that Rupesh must be dreaming about them. But Rupesh couldn't believe that he was dreaming.
Was he really dreaming or was there something else behind this incident?
