A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything

News Flashed on the television of USA’s amazing victory over Iraq, common folks were celebrating with a sense of pride of being a superior race, politicians and celebrities were making big statements over the past hours of how they knew this was going to be the result as it was written with an iron ink. At the same time Rick was sitting in his army barrack in some undisclosed part of Baghdad watching news and chaos around on the television and after sometime he could not take it more of those images, speeches.

He took his beer and started walking towards the balcony of his room, at a far distance he could see the wreckage left by the war on the streets of this city, he thought to himself once this city might have been so beautiful, with full of new hopes and dreams but now all that is left is wreckage of fallen buildings and memories of fallen soldiers, he too lost his best friend and partner in this war and still occasionally get nightmare of those horrifying moment, all he could remember that the blood was everywhere and every time he remembers he curse this wretched country who took his friends life.

He gulped the last remaining drops of beer and walked towards his fridge for more beer, but it was empty and his in his desperation to intoxicate himself so he can’t feel anything, he decided to take a stroll and after wondering around the empty wreckage he saw a small bar opened across the street. He entered the bar and saw a few locals sitting in a corner sitting like there is no soul left in them just a shallow and empty body, he noticed few of his fellow soldiers celebrating across the bar, he gave them a friendly nod and he moved towards the bar.

“What are you having sir”? to his surprise it was a woman’s voice and he found it strange as it was not a common scene in this country woman working late nights in supposedly man’s job as being the patriarchal society, “One beer please” there was a tone of confusion to his reply, he took the beer and starting looking around while gulping down the beer but he got transfixed on the bartender and saw that she was looking across the room towards a child who was just silently clearing the bar and he saw empathy and remorse in her eyes and few tears started rolling down her eyes.

Seeing this he couldn’t resist himself and asked and asked the one thought that was bugging him as soon he entered the bar “Is it allowed for a woman to own a bar in this country?”

“When it is allowed for some greedy politicians to send their innocent citizens to fight a war and die for no reason, then owning a bar by a woman seems such a petty crime”

He felt a chill in his spine by the bold reply, all he managed to figured out that she might have lost her husband in this war and that child must be her son who lost his father in the war, and he was taken back by the thought of it he paid the bartender for the extra beer and got out of the bar, while moving back to his barrack he came to the realization that all he thought he stands for was just a lie, his country attacked IRAQ to make the life of natives better but truth is they only made it worse by loss of so many good people on both sides, he was too blind to see the tears of others who suffered the same loss and way more than he lost, he took the last sip of the last remaining beer and he realized he was not full of anger anymore all that was left was grievance and remorse not only for his friends but also for all the good people lost for the greed and pride of few.
