I sometimes wonder, how unfair it was for women in mythological tales. The stories we all love to hear. Tales about how Ram defeated Raavan in the battle of Lanka and how he rescued Sita. How they say Mahabharata was held because of Draupadi. Let's take a pause from all these sayings and look at it through a woman's perspective. Sita, who could have lead a royal life by choosing to stay back in Ayodhya, chose to go to the jungle for her husband. Luck did not favor her even there. She was offering food to the sage only to realize the sage is not who he actually seems to be. Thus she was kidnapped by Raavan. So much for doing good. After years of being held captive, she was "rescued" by our hero, Ram. So much of suffering, yet we see Ram being worshiped.

Talking of Draupadi, we all know of the Cheerharan. Nothing has changed since then. So many rape victims, so many victims of acid attacks, I am sure every girl, every women must have gotten molested atleast once in their lives. Durga MAA as we say, can we get a woman the respect she deserves.

We are living in a patriarchal society where feminists are seen as "troublesome". We are not even asking for superior rights, all we want are "equal" rights. A certain site on the internet defines a woman as a wife or a female sexual partner, is that all we are? Why can't we be seen as an independent individual? Well, let me redefine the term woman for you. Woman, a warrior from within, an epitome of grace, she who holds the society together, she who apart from being a mother, a wife, a daughter is an individual.
