Silent Screams
Silent Screams
"The last words written by mankind will be in blood or tears? Hope is a medicine, or is it another dangerous drug they've created? Are we being deceived as each moment passes by? What they are doing, will it ever end? "All these questions always stabbed him like a serrated knife. It was not his fault though.
Once trust and confidence have been ruptured they can be difficult to regain, right?
He was told that we are not a machine, we are a part of a big one. And we, the parts, some of us have to do most of the work. And by some of us, they meant him, Jaxon Miller, a man who could save them all. His parents ceased to be long ago, so they had found out. Ever since the accident took place, they had been digging loads of information about him. He had been born that way, it was not his fault. In the world, where he lived, cancer had become as common a normal flu. The number of deaths that had happened in the last month were way more than the total deaths that happened two years back. And they, the authorities, were willing to do anything to get what he had. To explain, sharks have developed genomic adaptations that repair damaged DNA, effectively protecting them against cancer and other diseases. Legumain and Bag1, they believed, was present in his blood. He was immune to all those diseases a normal human was not. He didn't need vaccinations. Actually, for them, he had become the vaccination. These genes were always present in sharks but they could not be extracted and consumed as sharks have high levels of mercury that can lead to degenerative brain diseases. So, he was their target to save humanity. But they didn't have a plan, they didn't have enough proof, they didn't have enough genius scientists who could do extract the genes and vaccinate everyone. Half knowledge is always dangerous, and that's why Jaxon had been running away from them. He knew they would find him and do hundreds of agonizing experiments and when he won't be able to take it anymore, he'll close his eyes and all his questions will be gone forever. And the day arrived no sooner than he had expected. They did what he had predicted and right now, locked up in a dark cell, he could hear them arguing disappointedly. "There's no way we can do it."
"His genes can't be detected in his blood samples!" etc etc.
The next day was going to be another painful experiment. He was woken by a splash of water right into his face. The guard said in a hoarse voice, "Common, stand up, you animal."
They injected something into his blood and his head hurt too much. His body hurt too much. It seemed that everything hurt too much. Pain felt like a sharp-toothed creature eating him from the inside. He screamed and screamed. He kept his eyes closed, not because he didn’t want to see, but he thought it would hurt too much to open them. His body was shutting down. Death knocked on his door. With all the strength he could gather he said, " You did what we humans will always do - Discover and destroy."
And his eyelids shut with tears and blood coming out from his beautiful blue eyes. The last hope for the rescue of humans was now gone.
