Salem. ...

This place has incinerated so many others like me, she thought.

Maybe they were guilty, maybe they were not, but why me? What wrong have I done? To deserve something like this?

The girl trembled; her curly locks danced in the wind, accompanying her to her impending doom. Her eyes had nothing but tears in them: She pleaded for the last time, her body trying to fight the tight ropes around.

The girl looked down from the stake, at the men who bound her for her unjust execution. Her vision blurred, but she could make out one face. "Adrian", she spoke, her voice quivering.

"Please don't do this, please. swear to you on Rosette, I am innocent... I beg you, believe me, please... I killed no one! I promise you... Please".

The man in question had his eyes fixed on the ground in a stony stare. Slowly he raised his head and looked at the girl. This could never be Adrian, thought the girl. Those irises, which shone with passion, love and happiness during their wedding day and wedding night, now displayed contempt, grief and Indifference.

The girl sighed, "Just take care of Rosette". She closed her eyes, waiting for the flames to engulf her. She thought of the man who used to love her, her dead parents she was going to see again, the little house she was leaving behind, and her sweet little daughter, whom she would never ever see.

The voices around her became faint; there were people shouting abuses and scriptures round her. The girl recognised the word 'witch' among the words yelled out loud. Why don't they just kill me quickly and get over with it, she thought.

Soon there would be a burning splinter thrown at her body, burning her to nothingness. Her ashes would later be discarded as something foul or unholy Nobody would remember if she existed or not. But she couldn't care less.

Anything for my baby. Anything for Rosette.

Even death.
