Relationship
Relationship
Relationship – a word that probably defines almost everything of what we do, why we do and how we do. So, what ensures that we do it in a desirable way, consistently over a period of time? Or for that matter what helps improve upon that as well. Be it a relation between seller-customer, landlord-tenant, company-employee, husband-wife, lovers, parent-child, teacher-student or even bank-client relationship is what governs our behavior. And how good or bad our behavior is – depends on how healthy the relationship is.
So, what makes a relationship Healthy? We have some cliché answers for those – Love, Respect, Compassion, Dependency, Transparency, Commitment, Sharing, Trust, Honesty, Integrity, etc. No iota of doubt that all these are very important. But is that all? How do we ensure that all these parameters do not degrade over a period of time? Why does respect go, love ends, trust fades, transparency erodes – sometimes even without our knowledge? I bring in a word for us to ponder.
RELEVANCE. I think that the moment we begin to lose our relevance in a Relationship, things begin to fall apart. The moment the other party in a relationship begins to feel that someone is losing relevance to him/her, whichever relation you may consider – knowingly or unknowingly, our behavior starts to change. Though very unfortunate and not at all desirable, the parameters of Healthy Relationship start degrading.
So, to ensure that Relationship stands the test of time, we must strive for relevance – ALWAYS. In whichever relationship we are in, we must ensure that we stay relevant. Maybe, even after our best efforts, things do not improve – because it takes two to tango. We can only try in our sphere of influence, leave the rest and hope for the best.
