Ram and Shyam

Shyam was a teenager living with his parents and a younger sister. His father was the driver in a rich businessman's house. That businessman had a son named Ram who was naturally pampered since childhood.

Ram was of Shyam's age. So one day when Shyam had gone with his family to Ram's house in a function, as they were invited by Ram's father; they got along well. Ram's father was a very nice man. He took care of his employees and also looked into the well-being of their families.

Shyam was studying in the same school where Ram was studying, all because of Mr. Dinesh Agrawal, Ram's father.

As Ram was a pampered child, he developed some bad habits. He was egoistic, spendthrift, and didnot study. Shyam was just the opposite.

After Shyam got along with Ram, the latter began to call him to play with him and his friends in the afternoon.

Ram had one good habit. He treated the employees working in his house and in their company, with respect and also their families.

So he had no problem in mixing with Shyam who was the son of their driver.

One day while playing cricket, Ram's bat got broken. He immediately ordered his servant to bring five new MRF bats. Now MRF bats were costly. That too five at a time. . .

This thing did not go down well with Shyam. Shyam knew that Ram was a spendthrift. He said to Ram after the match, that when his bat broke, he should have had ordered one bat. Why five?

Ram said it would be in stock and also used by his friends like Shyam. Shyam was not convinced and said that their friends would bring their own bats. And there was no need to stock them as they were readily available in the market.

Ram thought for a while and then they both went to their homes.

Next day Ram wanted to go for a bicycle ride. He ordered six new bicycles for six of his friends. All his friends except Shyam were happy and praised Ram. After all who would not like free gifts!

All except Shyam took their new bicycles and went for a ride. Shyam however went in his old bicycle. This thing was noticed by Ram.

After returning back when his other friends had left, Ram asked Shyam to stay back a while. He asked him the reason for not accepting the new bicycle.

Shyam replied that Ram's father Mr. Agrawal is a rich man no doubt. But he works hard all day long so that Ram and his family live a luxurious life. Ram had no right to waste the hard-earned money of his dad.

When he would begin to earn and if his children would waste his earned money, then Ram would understand it that how it feels!

Ram was very sorry for his behavior. He understood his folly. He knew that amongst all his friends it was Shyam alone who was his true buddy. All my other friends were there due to his money. But it was Shyam alone who taught him the true meaning of friendship. He showed him the right path.

From that day Ram never wasted his money, worked hard, and also helped people in distress. He became the worthy son of a worthy father. And remained friends with Shyam who had shown him the correct path.
