Peekaboo

Peekaboo

2 mins 210 2 mins 210

When our eyes meet for a split second

A rusty window unwillingly cracks open

I can see into the depths of your soul

Vivid emotions that you cannot control

Anger so feral, it dances like wildfire

Veiled behind a curtain of manners

A flicker of malice takes me by surprise

Vanishes so quickly, was it real or a mirage?

Illicit thoughts, soaked in lust and desire

Had to break eye contact, blushing in denial

And when we meet next, I can tell it isn’t the same

Lets not toe the line. Follow the rules, play the game

Looking back, I wonder, did you also take a peek?

Into my portal of thoughts; Was it a two-way street?

She had been passing by his table at the aisle for over a month now, at first noticing how well dressed he turned up for work. A week later, he got a smart haircut and trimmed his beard, and he reminded her of George Clooney. Often, he came back sweaty from the gym at work, and she could smell the soap from his shower. Although not much addicted to caffeine to keep herself going through the innumerable meetings during the day, she started walking up just to fetch herself a cup of hot water and a glimpse of this piece of cake.

She started wearing perfume to work more regularly these days. And her outfits were neatly ironed out in the morning, often going for the dark skirts that made her look more flattering to curious eyes. Although her lipsticks were casual, they were still chic and made her look stylish at work nevertheless. Her friends started telling how she's been looking good lately, and she just responded by saying how eating more fruits is the secret to a lot of good things in life.

One Wednesday, out of the blue, she ran into him at the elevator while heading to the parking lot. He acknowledged her with a smile and by letting her walk out first.

'What a gentleman', she thought while smiling back at him thankfully.

He walked alongside her and spoke in a shy tone.

'Would you like to have a coffee sometime?'
