My Special Journey With Autism
My Special Journey With Autism
Hello friends,
Here I'm going to share my special journey with my special son, from childhood to teenage
I'm Neha Kulkarni. From Solapur Maharashtra.I have a 15yrs old boy.,who has Autism. I would like to share my story with you all today..
Navneet Was a normal child. There were no birth complications ...All his Milestone was normal .he used to speak one or two words till two years...but after two years we started seeing problems in his speech delay. Increase in hyperactivity..he was having lots of sensory issues..Gross and fine motor problem...but unfortunately at that time, There were no child psychologist nor a therapy centre at our place..
So For his treatment we went to Bangalore where my parents live...there we went to Parijma child development and rehabilitation centre .there my son was Assessed and we came to know that he has severe Autism..and at that time...Autism was a very new word for us..we were not knowing about Autism and it's symptom's..we started his remedial and occupational and speech therapy at that center..I stayed in Bangalore for nearly six months for his therapies...
Then child psychologist told me that it's a life long process., you shift to Bangalore permanently or u search for a center near by your place..it was not possible for us to shift to Bangalore bcoz my husband's business. Was settled at Solapur...Then we decided to take home programs..and I moved back to Solapur..
I started taking all his therapies at home... accordingly...given by the therapist...For every six months we used to go for Assessment .and we used to take home programs...we purchased all therapy tools and equipment and special needs toys ..I made all therapy room set up for him at home..
Our main focus was to make him independent..work on sensory and sleeping issues...Day by day he started responding to my therapies. First I worked on his toilet training..and slowly I started teaching him how to eat independently...how to chew food properly...oral exercises helped me with his feeding difficulties..I taught him every Life skills ..Now he is independent.I worked very hard on his speech..but unfortunately, there was no positive response from his side...but I started working on his receptive language..he can understand everything we talk..
I started an AAC Technique...it's an Alternative way of communication...I started teaching him typing...so through typing, he learnt everything...From Alphabets to Three letter words, words to sentences..he started expressing all his needs and emotions through typing...
Now he is expressing everything..and recently he started writing about his Autism and about his sensory problems...and he wrote many poems also...we as parents are really blessed to have a Special child ..who is so loving and caring...today I want to tell all that.... disability doesn't matter...if we have a goal and positiveness and a spirit to reach the dream...then we can definitely succeed...His passion for writing is inspiring me to write our story.
Thanks for listening to my special story with patience...
