It was one of the those typical Sundays where my family and I were very bored. Having no work to do, we decided to clean our old dusty storeroom. While cleaning we found a lot of stuff of our ancestors which brought back millions of sweet memories. We were overwhelmed and we had tears in our eyes. When I was cleaning a rugged, weary box, I found a dusty journal. I cleaned the journal and was very surprised to see that it was my great grandfather's journal. He was a brave army officer who lost his life fighting for his country's sake.

I called my brother and both of us started reading the entire journal. We found both sad and happy moments of his life in that book. He wrote about his happy moments when he used to return from war and used to see his family after three to four years. He wrote these words in his diary " Being an army officer is not easy, the sacrifices you make, the love and affection of your loved ones you miss is a lot, but the only thing that matters is the safety of your country and countrymen." It was clearly visible that he missed his family a lot but was helpless. He wrote about all his encounters and wars and we got to know what a brave hero he was! He lived such a difficult life.

As we approached the end of his journal we found a hand-drawn map. We tried to trace it and measured it on every part of the house. At last, it fit in the backyard of our house. We narrated everything we read to our parents. They helped us trace the red cross on the map and it was seen that that mark was placed in the middle of our backyard. My father and I started digging while my brother helped us with the tools. After a lot of digging, we found a treasured box. It was very heavy and dusty. We opened it and found our great grandfather's uniforms, weapons and his clothes. Tears rolled down our cheeks as we went through all of his stuff.

We were very proud to be born in a family of such a great hero and so my father decided to dedicate that area of our backyard to our great grandfather. We constructed a statue of his and honoured it with respect, love and affection. This statue was a token of our respect and love for him. He was a true hero and he will always be remembered.
