More Than Just a Best Friend

More Than Just a Best Friend

Mia and Liam had been best friends since childhood. They did everything together—playing, fighting, laughing, and sharing secrets. As they walked to college, their friendship was still the same.

"You didn’t do the assignment, did you?" Liam asked, smiling.

Mia groaned. "I was busy watching a drama where the childhood best friend got rejected."

Liam laughed. "That’s because the girl in the story was blind. The best friend is always the right choice."

Mia rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah? Then what if I propose to someone today and prove you wrong?"

Liam’s smile faded for a second, but he quickly hid it. "Oh? Who’s the unlucky guy?"

Mia’s eyes lit up as she pointed across the campus. "That guy, Ryan. He looks cute, right?"

Liam’s heart sank, but he forced a smile. "Yeah, sure. Go for it." He wanted to say, Don’t go. I love you. Can’t you see my love But instead, he watched her walk away.

A few minutes later, Mia came running back, her face red—not from happiness but embarrassment.

Liam raised an eyebrow. "What happened?"

Mia groaned. "He rejected me in the worst way! He said, ‘Sorry, but I like my coffee strong, not sweet,’ and walked away! His friends laughed, and now the whole college knows!"

Liam clenched his fists. "That jerk!"

Mia sighed. "I think I just became a joke."

Liam’s heart hurt for her. He wanted to tell her she deserved better—someone who truly cared for her. Someone like… him.

Days passed, and Liam’s feelings only grew. The way Mia laughed, the way she talked—he loved everything about her.

One evening, Mia walked into his room like she always did.

Liam looked up. "What brings you here?"

Mia sat in his chair and sighed. "Everyone keeps thinking we’re dating. Why can’t people understand we are just friends?"

Liam sighed, sitting up on his bed. He wanted to tell her—Mia, maybe they see something you don’t.

But he didn’t.

Mia noticed his silence. "What now? Say something."

Liam looked at her seriously. "If you don’t care, why do you hesitate when people say we’re together?"

Mia frowned. "I don’t hesitate!"

Liam smirked. "You do. And if it bothers you so much, maybe we should make their words come true."

Mia’s eyes widened. "W-What?"

Liam leaned forward. "That way, they’ll stop talking, right?"

Mia’s heart started beating faster. She didn’t know what to say. And just then, her phone rang—it was her mom.

She quickly stood up. "I… I have to go."

Liam watched her leave, knowing one thing—he wasn’t going to hold back anymore.

That night, Mia lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.

Why did Liam’s words make her feel… strange?

She had always seen him as her best friend, but now, something felt different. His voice, the way he looked at her—it was stuck in her mind.

And suddenly, she remembered all the little moments.

Every time Liam defended her. Every time he stayed up late just to listen to her talk. Every time he smiled at her like she was special.

Her heart skipped a beat. Did I miss something all this time?

She picked up her phone, wanting to call Liam. But she didn’t.

Because deep down, she already knew the answer.

Years Later…

Mia walked down the aisle, her heart racing—not with fear, but with love.

And there he was. Liam.

The boy who had always been by her side. The one who had loved her in silence. Now, he was the man waiting for her at the altar.

Liam took her hands, smiling. "See? The best friend is always the right choice."

Mia laughed softly, her eyes full of love.

And with that, they promised forever—not just as best friends, but as soulmates.
