Mini

For Sudhakar, Mini was his life. He could not live a single day away from her. Her sweet and stuttering voice filled his heart with infinite joy and satisfaction. She was born ten years after his marriage with Smita. They had lost their hope of ever becoming parents. But after spending a lot of money in hospitals and visiting every temple known for miracles in the country, they became parents, and this changed their life. Mini's presence had filled their house with happiness. For them, she was their world. They remained busy with her from morning to evening.

Mini was very intelligent like her father. Whoever talked to her got surprised to see her Intelligence. Whatever she once heard, she could repeat it without any mistake. When Sudhakar took her to a local school for admission, everybody there was impressed to see her talent.They had never seen such a child, who in such a tender age of five, was able to read better than many other students of the school.

Sudhakar and Smita were proud to see their child's progress. They thanked God for giving them such a good daughter like Mini. They were sure that one day she would achieve some great thing in her life. Mini achieved that very year by passing the medical entrance examination. She then went to Mumbai, and after four years, returned to her city becoming a doctor.

One evening, Mini told her father about her dream of starting a small hospital in her city for the poor. At first, Sudhakar did not like it. He knew that it meant he would have to spend all his savings on it, but Mini took him in confidence by promising him to return a big amount to him as an interest for his money every year.

In greed of getting a huge amount in return every year, Sudhakar got ready to spend all his money and, in a few years, the hospital was ready. Sudhakar himself inaugurated it. Soon patients started coming for treatment in large numbers. Mini together with some other doctors gave the best treatment to the poor. The people who felt helpless and died without proper treatment before now got the best treatment from the best doctors of the world, and that too, at a very nominal or no charge.

Mini and the other doctors of her hospital kept working hard and helping the poor without any selfish intent. In a few years, owing to their dedication and selfless service to humanity the hospital grew worldwide in name and fame. Even people from other countries started coming for their treatment.

Gradually, Mini became a household name not only at Udaypur but also in several countries outside India. People liked her and felt inspired by her efforts towards service of humanity. The President and the Prime Minister visited her hospital several prestigious awards were one by one conferred to her. The patients who had got a new life from the hospital started keeping her portrait in their temples and began worshipping her as a deity who, they thought, had taken birth on this land only to save their lives.

Sudhakar and Smita both were very happy now. They were happy not because their daughter's hospital was flourishing by leaps and bounds, but because they had seen with their own eyes how their small drab kind of city changed into an international health hub.
