Strong gusts of cool air were blowing over the deserts surrounding Kumbalgarh Fort when Reval Singh of Meerut reached there with his army. It was a starless night and all Reval could see was the image of his most coveted prize in the full moon.

Except one there was no soul in the fort who had the slightest knowledge of the impending disaster that would soon befall them early next morning. The king slept peacefully knowing his baby faced, a delicate doll of a wife was beside him and would soon, hopefully, bear him his first successor. After all, she had just turned eighteen.

It was nine years back when he had acquired her by defeating the strongest ruler of India in a battle which was so gruesome that half the population of the losing side was wiped out. He had acquired Rukmini and many more but owing to the innocent, charming ways of Rukmini, she gradually became his favourite and eventually Queen. Naive. That's what he knew she was. He lavished her with everything a girl could desire and in return, she made sure all his needs were fulfilled. Bhanu was sure she had forgotten all about her past life and her loyalty was only for Kumbalgarh while his loyalty was only for her.

As days progressed Rukmini became a palace favourite. She trained herself in archery, horse riding, wrestling, combat and even uncannily and secretly, in code messaging. She could easily decipher any code or make one within seconds and no one, not a single person of the kingdom was able to read it.

As the plunger of the syringe filled with a deadly mixture of aesphenol and sulphur went deeper, Bhanu's eyes fluttered for a moment and then came an inhuman ghastly shriek. His eyes plunged open as he felt his veins bursting inside his chest. He saw his wife sleeping peacefully beside him and tried to call her but that was the last voice he ever made.

The sun had already begun to make its presence known when Bhanu breathed his last. She gave it a full ten minutes before rising from the bed, kissing the forehead of her now-dead husband and disposing off the syringe.

Reval Singh had licked his wounds for nine years. He had worked hard for this and had built back the ruins of his city from ashes to gold. He knew he could easily defeat Bhanu now and reclaim his lost prestige but she had stopped him. She wanted to do it herself and so he agreed to wait for the day.

When Reval entered the room, after having defeated the entire army of Bhanu, killing each and every person in sight, Rukmini was ready. Rukmini of Meerut who had been brought up by the state to be the Queen of Reval, was ready. Her loyalty could never be questioned.
