Holiday crush

I don’t know how special a summer holiday vacation is for anyone, but for me, it is always special. I used to visit my grandmother’s house, and my cousins always gave me company.

Somewhat, holidays during summer hit differently, because, I stay out of my parent's control and was taken care of by only my grandmother, she used to spoil me with lots and lots of love and care and of course a lot of food.

Another thing, why I like visiting her is because of him. I have never met someone who stole my heart that easily. It is him, Caleb. He lives in the opposite house of my grandmother. A smart, charismatic, and good physique young man, who makes my heart flutter every time I stand near him. He was raised so politely treating all with so much respect. I refrain from falling for him yet I am failing miserably.

Caleb is a year older than me. But he looks much older than me when we stand together. When I visit my grandma, she used to gossip about the people surrounding the area. About Ginny, who is her tea time mate, Jacob, the milkman, and Henry, the mailman. 

And I overheard once when I was little that, Caleb’s Mom and my Mom used to be best friends and that since my mom has to move along with my father’s job, they parted away.

But every vacation goes with me spending time with my grandmother. Myself, Caleb, and my cousins used to play together, including puzzles, word games, outdoor games like hide and seek, and many more. When I was that young, I saw him as a good brother and got no feelings for him. But my heart now is totally different this time.

The day I arrived…..

“Grandma! I missed you so much!”, I greeted her entering the house and hugging her.

“Oh! Lily, you have grown so much!”, she hugged me embracing me tightly. My grandma lives alone on her own after our grandfather passed away, she was a strong independent woman. I like to call her by her name ‘Mary’ when I get irritated or angry, but she never minds. Being her last granddaughter, I have more privileges than my other cousins.

“How was your journey?”, she asked me.

“Good grandma! How are you doing?”

“Fine as always!”

“Okay! Get changed first, we will have lunch!”

“Sure”, I said and went to the guest room which was on the first floor. Everything was exactly the same as I previously left last time.

I started unpacking my things and explored the room further to re-see the things in the room. It gave me a sense of nostalgia. The photo on the wall, had me, my two cousins, and my grandmother, during our last summer vacation beaming happily.

Near the window, there was a window and I peeked out to see the road below it.

That was the moment I saw Caleb, being grown into the most handsome man in my eyes. My heart beats faster, and faster. I try to pacify it but it never listens to me. I am totally awed by his beauty. He changed his style completely, he got a more mature face now and wore ripped jeans and a tank top. He also gained a few muscles, which were obvious from the outside. He looks great compared to most 16-year-old boys.
