Dark, dark and cold, that's what they felt most of the time. Sleep was an impossible opportunity, but one welcomed with open arms. Sleep didn't come to them of course, they were cursed to never sleep, what they did was but a falsehood, a solemn attempt at a normal human action. They sat up, their dirty hooded jumpsuit greeting them as they looked at themself, worn boots with floppy tongues covered their feet as they picked themself up and looked around further.

They looked at a decrepit room an abandoned home, the bedroom had only a few bits of salvageable furniture. A slightly tilted drawer, a ripped soaked mattress that they were sleeping on rested on a destroyed bed frame. A wardrobe that was ajar held not but ratty and old clothes, they took interest in it however, slowly walking over to pull the clothes out of their resting place. In this moment of tranquility, they let their mind wander, their hands, covered by three-fingered gloves took clothes of both female and male persuasion. They first took the female clothing, a tight-fitting dress that would have covered up to little ways past the knee if not for its damaged state, even with its withered appearance, it still held an aura of elegance.

They slowly began to sway, their eyes closed in a silent nod to what it would be like, the dress covering their unisex clothes like a mask to let them masquerade as a false identity. They sighed before placing the dress on the mattress, slowly caressing it, as if leaving a love momentarily with a dampened heart. They swung around, their gaze meetings stained suit, one sleeve torn off while the other seemed to be following suit. They grasped the suit and closed their eyes, feeling the strength, pride, the stoic position of an individual to wear such a garment. Before they could pull it out of the wardrobe, they were caught by the instinctive feeling to turn, there in the right corner was a dressing table, the mirror on it folded out into three parts, one of those parts hanging limply on the left side.

On the right fold, it caught the window which was placed behind them, the window caught a rare glimpse of light from the grim-looking sky. That light had managed to escape past the dark clouds that were the rain, pouring outside. This light escaped just to bring them back to a cruel reality, that reality was their physical state. They glared at their face, an ovular head that sat on a thin neck, the head was decorated with long feral hair, wet from the soaked mattress which was their only comfortable place to rest. Their hair hid only one eye, the other is visible as it looked through the jet black vines of hair as a large socket that held a large eye with what seemed to be no iris or pupil in sight, only notification of such a thing being the small dot in the milky white that was their eye.

Their nose was nonexistent, only two small holes were used to breathe as they rested above a long slit, partially parted to reveal dozens of teeth. Their face held no identity, no gender, no humanity, just a monstrous visage as they began to tremble in acknowledgment. They knew only to reject such a face as theirs, they were human, at least they thought they were. They swiftly pulled one of the doors of the wardrobe off its rusted hinges, throwing it upon the mirror as they hit their temples in distress. They let out a cry, a whimpering sob that was not of a man holding back sorrow nor a woman letting her emotions take vocal form, this cry was of something that was neither. they calmed themselves slowly, letting their newfound depression guide them to the exit in a blind moment of silent actions.

After this blur within their hate and saddened emotions, they found themself at basement steps. Their eyes not able to pierce the darkness, but slowly they trekked below, the darkness at least hiding their visage. When they finally made it to the bottom, they finally adjusted to the lack of light, they saw the shape of shelves and a table in the dark. Hesitantly they reached for the left wall, patting it down for any switch, finding a meager one that was slightly loose. They flicked the light on to reveal masks, shelves of masks as well as a work table holding one itself. They step into the room more, looking at the masks, some covered in feathers, others colored dark to give off the mystery.

None on the shelves held their focus, it was the one on the work table that did, however, a simple mask that was painted black and gold, decorated with branches that stretched from the corners of the eyes. They gently picked it up, seeing another mirror on the table, handheld and small, only catching their hair. They slowly put it on, putting the small strap around their head and tucking it away under their long hair, they then took the handle of the mirror and slowly gazed upon a new sight. Their face was hidden, covered by an elegant yet simple mask, they stroked it gently as if it were a delicate flower, they then noticed that the loud rhythmic taps of rain had ceased. They slowly walked upstairs, looking out of the hole in one of the crumbled walls that barely stood, seeing that the rain had gone. They looked at the door, spotting their only other valuable possession, a sickle, slowly creeping closer as it was hung by the blade from a leaning hat rack.

After taking their other item, they opened the door, stepping out into a devastated world, what seemed to be a higher-class neighborhood was now rows of decimated houses. This was their world, they didn't know anything but survival here, they simply looked at this common sight and caressed their new face again. Beginning to walk down the broken and cracked sidewalk in search of something new besides buildings of the old world. This individual is human, but what kind of human they are will be revealed, for now, this creature will remain without a past until it is shown, they go by no name, so why don't you refer to them as Faceless.
