Dear Diary,

There are 3 phases of love in everyone's life, their first love , puppy love which only involves cliche` messages, awkward handshakes and silly fights.

We don't believe it was love , but it actually was. Well that's the kind of love we knew back then. Then comes the 2nd phase where were fall, for the lessons to be learnt, it's the hard one. The one where were learn pain, abuse, heartbreak, drama, damage and self-worth. Then finally during the third phase , which comes blindly. It creeps in on you silently when you least expect it. It helps you define your dezires of what you want and don't want. It shows you how to be closed, cautious and considerate. It is the one that keeps you afloat or pulls you out of the darkest depths of despair.

I found it hard to categorize him into any of these phases.

Today was the day he made it relatively easier. He was home that afternoon, and we were casually reminiscing about our past and I managed to unabashedly bring my ex into the conversation. In a split second I realized that I may have taken us both to an uncomfortable setting. This is when he managed to surprise me. He joined into the conversation, very nonchalantly though I had shifted myself to a very grey space. We hadn't realized how long we had been talking, that it was almost time for him to leave and I was left with a weird pensive mood.

I woke up the next day thinking, I'm not going down those dark ropes this time he comes over.

He comes over, as cheerful as ever and tells me, " Hey I've got something for us to do!", and picks out a box from his bag. He then picks out a few random things which include a dried rose , a book, some notes and some pictures. " This is my ex-box, pun-intended , he said with a wink, "A place where I stored all the things that reminded me of my ex".

He told me to pick a few things of the same nature that meant the same to me. "We're gonna flush it all down, that's what we're gonna do, ". He then dragged me to the restroom and we wishfully emptied the our ex- box both physically and from our minds forever. That was the moment I realized I had found a best friend and it felt like home. There I knew exactly which phase to put him in.
