Dear Diary,

A big high five to you! So it’s the 5th day of lockdown. As much as I can I am trying to cope with the news about the spread of COVID-19. I really hope things would soon get under control and life would return to normalcy. Let’s start this conversation on a positive note.

Last night I really slept well. After its depravity a night before yesterday, I compensated by sleeping for a whopping 10 hours on the trot. I don’t remember getting up at all during this window. Not even once. The feeling after such a good sleep was ecstatic. Though 10 hours sounds to be a bit on the higher side. I would try to maintain it somewhere around 7-8 hours, which is absolutely necessary. Ordinarily, my sleeping hours are too less. It is one area in which I have been constantly facing criticism from my dear ones for a long time. I think this is a great opportunity for me to put this aspect in order. Maybe I would train myself to sleep for a certain affixed number of hours and continue the habit even after lockdown.

I also noticed my eating habits and pattern have drastically changed. With plenty of time available in hand and limited physical movement, my desire to eat and explore various food items that can be cooked at home has risen. The bulge on my waste line prominently indicates what I am trying to say. Thus, its time for me to bring back the same rigor and regime which I had a couple of months ago. That helped me to shed a dozen kilos in a short period of time. Mind you, I am not talking about some freaking technique of starvation to lose weight but about resuming a course prescribed by the professional. I had followed the same until my trip to Goa in Feb. Hence, I kicked off my day with high protein breakfast, complimented my stomach with butter starved parathas and called it a day with a bowl full of plain dal and rice. If you closely watch what you eat, it is easier to control such mindless indulgence.

On the other hand, I shifted my greed from food to books. Its been long since I did some dedicated and purposeful reading. Last year, somewhere in October, I had decided to complete a series of novels by a certain period of time. But unfortunately, due to other commitments of which majorly was work-related, I couldn’t complete reading as planned. Some of these novels are also a part of the syllabus of the Master’s degree that I am currently pursuing. I shall try to complete as many as books I can. I have already started with one today and have targeted to complete the same by next Sunday.

In the end, I would like to urge every man of this country to help your spouse or woman of the house. As you may have noticed that there is no respite for them from the household work that they do. The absence of maid or servants in such unprecedented times have also added to their problems. You should know it since I have already spoken about it in brief in the letter written on Day 3 of the lockdown, which I realized is yet to be published.

Anyways, you shall get a chance to read my views on that topic.
