Choices That Shape Us

Everyone of you are more than what you think, said one of the teachers. Every student present in the room was motivated by this statement. There was a girl named Gouri, lost in her own world, was awakened when bell rang. Two of her classmates Saumya and Preeti approached her and said, "Hey! what are your future plans. What do you want to be when you grow up. Well, I want to be an astronaut or perhaps a scientist said Gouri in her childlike innocence. The two girls mocked, have you seen your marks? Gouri understood very well what they meant as the fact was not hidden that Gouri was not performing well in her class. And yes,she was not studying and thus her performance was not up to the mark. She felt bad about whatever happened. She shared the incident with others but it did nothing all she got was faux sympathies.

Anyways, years passed she realised that the dream she had was just not hers. It was just that she had no clue about her interests she had always thought of her potential from others perspective. Now, it was the time for everyone to choose their streams for higher studies. Gouri, unfortunately, had no idea but she knew one thing she was not supposed to be ordinary. Later in she took decisions that surprised everyone. She had the choice to choose what was easy for her. That didn't challenge her potential but she chose what was right not what was easy. She faced lots of up and down due to her decisions. But all that brought closer to herself. She did what her heart said.

Years passed, Gouri was a different person now as she had transformed. Everyone who met her was just curious to know about her. And one day she received a call from her school friend and she came came to know that there was going to be a school reunion. She was excited to meet her old friends. Well, who doesn't want to go back in nostalgic days and meet childhood friends. The day came, she smiled to herself in the mirror as she dressed for the occasion. She could hear the music as her car approached the destination. Her heart was pounding as she arrived. Is this you Gouri? Yes, sorry I didn't recognize you said she. I'm Preeti. You've changed a lot. Thanks, said Gouri smiling back. She noticed that Soumya had also arrived. She met Soumya along with her other friends heartily. Everyone was changed now. They were young men and women from chubby kids. And yes, our dearest Gouri had also changed one thing was sure everyone wanted to talk to Gouri as there was a different charisma in her personality. Gouri and Saumya were good friends now, they were in touch with each other. I have to go now said Gouri to Saumya but it was lovely experience. Looks like you guys were in touch with each other asked one of the friends to Soumya. Yes, but why are you so surprised asked Soumya. Well, Gouri was not the Gouri we knew, he started explaining.

She was completely different, a girl of few words who doesn't need any introduction.S he is very famous now her, her articles and books can be seen everywhere, she can influence lots of people with her words her name is more than enough. Saumya was taken aback. She had been very busy for past few years looking at patients as she was a very good doctor now. Gouri didn't choose to be a doctor or an engineer she did what she always wanted to be, she became a writer. She was now known for her stories everywhere.

Gouri encountered Preeti and Saumya a lot of times whenever there was an event at their respective workplace not as a friend but Gouri as a chief guest. Gouri had proved herself, she just follows her heart and she remembered the lines of her favourite writer Robert Forst from the poem "road not taken" as she received the Nobel prize in literature.
