Bharatiys are not SECULAR

Bharatiys are not SECULAR

These Bharatiys ! They  all work in a hospital; some are doctors, some nurses, some ward- boys, some are sahayika, and others. They vary not only in colour of skin but in attires and accessories too. They have different rules to follow their morning practices . They carry different beliefs . They differ in traditions and cultures, that they follow. They pray differently.

Despite working in same operation room , they have different tasks in respective hands. From history taking to make the patient ready for surgery is one resident doctor ; I know he's Punjabi coz he wears neetly pleated turban in jouyous colours. Murmering' Sat-Sri-Akal' he enters patient's room on the day of surgery and with a charming smile, gleaming eyes and a small nod of head he greets the patient. Patient is mostly aware of his surgery and resident's pleasant presence simply boosts his confidence.
Part preparation is usually done by munnu bhai who rushes little behind the resident doctor. In his rush he often forgets to replace his skull cap by sterile head cover provided by hospital. Turbaned Dr Gurnaam Singh tells the patient that munnu bhai is a gentleman and help him get ready for surgery . While uttering this, as soon as he raises his eyebrows a little, munnu bhai clutches his skull cap in his left hand , puts it in left pocket and simultaneously brings out the head cover from right pocket and uses both his hands to wear it , sheapishly giving a smile to patient.

If it is a female patient , Savitri Amma is found usually beside the patient bed before doctor gets in . Then too doctor raises his brows as usually a teeka is donning patients forehead, to which Savitri Amma earnestly says, ghabra nako doctor Saab, I'm here to take care.

And the patient comes to operation theatre well prepared, and in control
and care of anaesthetist, Dr Srinath, a tamilian,  whose face is totally covered; no, no! Not like an Egyptian mummy. Head cover till half of his forehead, the rest of forehead is covered with white Chandan paste and mask covers the face till half of the nose and eyes are covered by spectacles ; hence fully covered face. He is a man of few words and more of sign language. Many patients and most staff think he doesn't speak much , respecting the quietness of OT and comfort of patient, while the fact is he doesn't know much Hindi; but , then I wonder,  how he gets all the jokes that surgeon Tripathi cracks in between the surgery !
Only one person doesn't laugh at surgeon Tripathi 's  jokes and that's his first assistant surgeon Shazia Manzoor. She is always concentrating on surgery holistically ; her nondominant hand frequently correcting second assistant Dr Subroto 's hands with retracters , dominant one performing various tasks in tandem with Dr Tripathi 's ;  eyes scanning every part of surgical field and ears listening every beap of machines. She herself is quite capable of handling many surgeries on her own yet is always respectful of Dr Tripathi. During the surgery, docters' conversation with nurse Rijju is through hands only. Rijju  has her own dominion  over certain parts of OT and she manages to keep her silver cross overlooking the entire table area.
So they are all different, with different faiths and beliefs, customes and traditions, signs and symbols and few more things.
Probably what unites them is the patient's cut open body with invariably single and same colour of blood. Sometime there's a whispering question of jahovaas witness but usually the answer is a relaxing NO.
HOW CAN THEY BE SECULAR. THEY ARE CLEARLY NOT. They can not be . They are not trained to be secular. If they would become secular things will just not work out. When Dr Gurnaam has gone for his engagement on Lohri, Dr Srinath took on his duties too. When Dr Srinath goes for his annual Thirupathi trip, Dr Tripathi takes cases in local or spinal with another Dr. When Dr Shazia keeps her roza she's given rest by second assistant Dr Subroto who happily goes on Pujo leave because Dr Shazia covers him then.
So many such replacements keep Bharat moving forward. How can we be same  or secular . Not at the cost of sovereignty definitely.
---------×----------×------------×-------------×-------
And on this Onam , after getting my fresh groceries supplied by my local grocery store , I wondered, when every Hindu, every Muslim, every Christian of Kerala is celebrating this festival , how come NEEDS , the grocery store is working. The answer quickly followed , "because it's been run by the young, energetic, cute Northeastern couple.
And I could have a rich sadya just because we are not SECULAR.
