" Look at that tempting black forest pastry." Master Robin told his friend, Master Richard.

Robin just had Rs 5 in his pocket and that also mamma had given him for bus ticket from school to home.

Richard his class mate and bestie had Rs 10 in his pocket and his dadda had given Rs 5 for peanuts. They were class 7th kids, from Model English school.

"The boys were hungry and they drooled looking at a pastry in a cake shop. The pastry shined with its icing and red cherry on the top. The boys greedily glared under the glass."

Richard bought a 5 rupee slice cake and Robin did not have money.

" I will share with you, Robin," Richard said and both little boys stood holding hands, again just looking on that tempting pastry.

A woman in her late 30's walked inside the store.

"It was her birthday and she wanted to do something special. She had her parents but could not get enough love from them in the struggles of life. Her name was Rose and she was indeed beautiful like the flower."

She had seen the two kids drooling for the pastry and it was just a single piece, available. She had got a good amount from her boyfriend as a birthday gift. She had earned perks at the office and she was going to use that money for the good cause.

"Her first mission was to put a smile on a stranger's face."

But there were there two faces now Richard and Robin. She asked the shop keeper to pack it. The boys moved out of the store. She ran behind them and called them. She offered them what they desired.

They were happy to get their favourite pastry that they craved for and also two more pastries from her.

" Happy birthday sister." Robin wished her because Rose looked like the birthday girl.

Richard scolded him saying that she is a stranger and a lot of crimes are happening around. He should not talk to strangers.

Rose looked at the boys and made a funny face.

" I had drooled over ice- creams in my childhood days. But people fooled me with empty cups. "

Rose went back to the memories of her childhood days. She had been to a party. She was given a cup of ice-cream and she finished it. She wanted more. Her teenage love Evan knew she loved ice- creams. He asked her to get a cup for him. She ran towards the counter and picked his share. Evan winked at her and gave his share. Her jealous friend Manshu asked her to eat her share too. Rose was happy. She again ran to the ice- cream counter. Xavier, Evan's brother hated her and he said something into his friend Joy's ear. Joy handed over a cup. She ran towards Manshu. Manshu gave a mischevious smile and asked her to eat it. She opened the round paper cover from the cup. It was empty and Xavier screamed: " Lick it, you greedy dog."

Rose was in tears that day and in the present time, she was rich enough to buy a ice cream cart. She narrated her tale and proudly added:

"Today, I can buy a whole carton of ice creams. Richard is right, one should not trust strangers but not all are bad. Please accept this from me and it will make my day- the day of the birthday girl."

She opened up her pure heart and her words flowed like honey.

She opened the box and fed the boys on the bus stand. She even distributed a few chocolates to the beggars sitting outside a church.

" She is merciful," Richard said.

Rose had smiles on her face and she slowly said to herself:

" I know how it feels when you can't buy at least what you love to eat? People insult you when you are poor. Xavier, I will hire you as my slave one day, mark my words but today may I make more people happy. It is my birthday."
