Chapter 35

Inside the college campus John and his friends walked a little further where there was a huge tree, it was under this tree John and Roslyn would always sit and talk. John, Sean and Sandeep walked close to the tree, Sean and Sandeep were busy talking to each other and John’s breathing quickened. His heart in his throat and unable to utter a word he tapped Sandeep on his shoulders and pointed his finger under the tree. Sandeep first looked at John, he was drenched in his sweat, his hands shaking. Then Sandeep turned to look at the tree. and there he saw a girl in pink salwar with open hair... Looking at Sandeep and John, Sean too looked at the tree and gasped "Oh my god isn’t that Roslyn?"... Sandeep and John were very sure it was a ghost but they were shocked when they knew even Sean could see her...John and Sandeep stood frozen, Sean was about to run towards Roslyn by then Ajith, Ahilan and few of their classmates came hugged them and within seconds Roslyn disappeared... Sandeep said “John, ignore it come on let's go see our classroom”.

John with all his classmates walked towards their classroom... The minute they got into their classroom everyone reminisced about how the place was and 10 years later nothing has changed, each one sat in their place and started discussing the memories they made... John too sat in his place but his mind was thinking only about Roslyn... He felt the same way he felt for the first time he saw Roslyn, his heart was beating 100 times faster, he came out and stood in the lobby and he saw Roslyn entering the college the way he saw her for the first time... John ran down, he searched for her all over the college he ran up and down to no avail... With disappointment, he sat on the stairs and he felt someone touching his shoulders John turned to check who it was... It was Sandeep "what are you doing here" he questioned... “I.. I saw Roslyn again, I came in search of her dude” said John... “It was you who confirmed that Roslyn was dead, and she isn't alive!?!, I don't understand whether you are behind the ghost or the ghost is behind you". John screamed, “stop calling her a ghost”... “ What do you want me to say, you know she is no more a human being, you know she is dead then why the hell are you searching for her... Just stay with me you are not going anywhere without me!” ordered Sandeep.

There were more than 200 people from all the batches... They all gathered in the auditorium with lecturers... John was surrounded by a group of girls who had a crush on him during college days... one said “You still look the same John” while the other said “do I have a chance now?” Sean jumped in between saying “yes you do!! but with me” and gave them a sly smile, girls started laughing. Gradually John lightened up and got involved with the discussion and forgot about Roslyn for a while...

Few students got on to the stage to explain about their college days, life after college and about their experiences... Ahilan whispered something into Sean's ears, Sean turned around and slowly got up from his seat and walked away... After the speech and discussions, it was snacks time now, they were provided with eatables. All friends sat in a group with their particular gang... “Sean is missing” said Ajay, everyone looked around for Sean and finally John saw him waving his hand from the last bench, but what disturbed John was that Roslyn who was sitting beside Sean.

Looking at Sandeep, John pointed his finger beside Sean saying look... "Roslyn" said Sandeep... John quickly ran towards her and Sandeep followed him... “Look who’s come john” said Sean... John kept looking at her face, he was sweating, staring at her totally gob smacked... Meanwhile Sean waved his hand at someone and said “you guys keep talking I will join back in sometime”... With watery eyes she asked “How are you John? Did you forget me?” Tears rolled down John's cheeks “how can I forget you? why did you leave me?” He asked, “I was living with hope to meet you once, but when I realised you are the one following me I died inside, I thought you were visible to me. But everyone here can see you!!”. 

“What are you talking about John? I don’t understand” replied Roslyn wiping her tears. Before John could say anything Sandeep held his hand tight and asked... “Do you remember me Roslyn? Where were you all these years?”. “Of course I do Sandeep” was her reply... and Sean came back...

Sandeep took John a little further away and said ‘dude, that's Roslyn”. “Of course she is!! Sandeep, I want to talk to her, just let me go..I want to know why she left this world so early”.. Sandeep said “John! are you out of your mind? can't you make out that she is not dead? she isn't a ghost, she is Roslyn, and she is alive”... “What??” John turned to look at Roslyn again, she was talking to Sean and few others but her eyes were failed to move away from John.
