Women of today

On International women's day, 

It's rather difficult to say, 

Who is the best amongst all, 

For each has a unique way, 

Every one has an individual say,

Agreed, when it comes to motherhood,

There is no one better than Mother Earth, 

But then also among human women there is no dearth, 

Our Mother Yashoda holds a place of pride, 

So does Shabri, the innocent devotee,

who lovingly feeds HIM, her half eaten berry, 

Let's meet a few of the outstanding many, 

Mira, her saga is a classic epic, 

Radha, her love has no parallel, 

Sita, trapped in Lanka, during the exile, 

Urmila, completing Laxman' s sleep, in the palace, 

Ahalya, a innocent victim of chauvinism, 

Draupadi, a deep cry for plea, 

The list continues even now, 

The names haunt even in this age,

So does the sacrifice of countless other like us, 

The normal women like you and me? 

We the humane women of this era? 

What about our struggle for existence? 

What about our everyday marathon? 

In the race to prove ourselves, 

In the rope walk between our career and home, 

Unknowingly, we have split into two, 

Neither one is at peace with the other, 

For we are just women, not superwomen! 

So, each woman out there has a reason to be celebrated and worshipped, 

Not just on Women's Day but every day, every single day.
