Who We Are

Who We Are

Seeing as the world is a messed-up setting,

Perceiving society as nothing but vile and stereotypical.

This society has nothing but judgment and ridicule.

Someone can do a thing, but mean something so different,

In the eyes of those who know nothing of us.

Those who don’t know our story identify us as something we are not.

They have not walked in our shoes, seen what we have seen,

Gone through what we have, they don’t know what it’s like,

To be us, to think like we do, to do the things we do,

For reasons someone unlike us will never understand,

Mindset on our opinions, who we are.

No one can change who we are, no matter what that may be.

We are all different:

Different thoughts,

Different feelings,

Different likes and dislikes,

Different gender,

Different skin color.

Everything is different for everyone.

But no one can change who we are, we are ourselves.

Disregard what judgmental people think.

Disregard the whispers and the stares.

We are who we are. That will never change.

Some may be uncomfortable with who they are,

Scared of those whispers and stares,

Scared of being judged for being who they are.

I know, I’ve been there.

We just have to get past those fears,

We need to stand up and fight for what is right.

Fight for the rights we deserve,

The right to be who we are, who we want to be,

Without being ridiculed every time we step outside,

Every time we step out of that comfort zone.

We can’t help who we are, what we were born to be.

And no one has the right to tell us what we are doing is wrong.

We will not change to fit someone else’s liking.

No matter who you are, what you are, what you may think of yourself,

No matter what you do, what you like, who you like,

Never be scared to show your true self.

You should be proud of who you are, and no one can tell you otherwise.

Be strong and never give up on yourself.

You are worth it. Everyone is worth it.

Everyone is worth the fight.
