For Any Other

Waking up from a dire dream

to appreciate the silence of consciousness,

and the coldness of the skin.

Submerged in darkness

a glow forewarns the arrival,

filling me with something warm

that reveals the strange tear of happiness.

It’ll be necessary to change my name.

Change it to start over,

to live the time I have left.

Change it to any other name

to be remembered

for who I really am.
