unspoken longing

unspoken longing

The day I first laid eyes on you,

As you emerged before my view.

Never did I imagine such a fate,

Seeing you would make my heart accelerate.

No one knew about you, just a face,

So many admirers, an enigmatic grace.

Thought I'd blend in the crowd,

Little did I know, my thoughts were allowed.

For you, I thought I'd be the one,

Yet when I found out, the pain had begun.

Many eye contacts before, but that one,

When you smiled, my heart had spun.

On that stage, you, mere feet away,

A glance was exchanged feelings at play.

From that moment, it was clear,

I couldn't deny, you were my dear.

Love, at first sight, a notion absurd,

No words were exchanged, yet a connection was inferred.

I believed in my choice so true,

A silent bond, unknown to you.

I kept it hidden for so long,

When I learned you belonged,

To someone else, it was hard to bear,

But your happiness, I tried to share.

Friends spoke much of you,

But after you, their words I outgrew.

Approaching your friends, a nerve-wracking task,

But for you, I'd put on any mask.

When you knew of my existence,

A reply from you, my heart's insistence.

I knew it might not lead anywhere,

Yet a glimmer of hope, I couldn't declare.

That first smile, that glance so sweet,

My heart melted and skipped a beat.

Realized I wasn't just another face,

Not important maybe, but at least known in your space.

Soon, you'll leave, the routine will break,

No more anticipating your arrival's wake.

Just a little time, and you'll be gone,

Leaving memories, and life will go on.

The habit of seeing you every day,

The wait for your presence will fade away.

You'll depart, and the routine will break,

But memories of you, for my heart, will always ache.
