This Side Up

This Side Up

Last week in an encounter, a man cheekily remarked,

That head or tail, or south or north,

Or the meaning or suggestion of my poem, he entirely had failed to fathom,

Lacking it was in clarity, connect and context he said,

And when asked to be shown the piece that was,

I saw it nailed to a wall in his mind,

Ungraciously hanging upside down,

As I slowly turned it around, falling in place, the words unhinged their moorings,

But never again to be in this fashion misunderstood,

Now on top of each of my poem I write “This Side Up”.
