The Secret

The Secret

I dove deep into the woods one day,

Past the green meadow, the orchards and the bay.

Hidden in a dense thicket, I sat as still as stone,

Only the birds sang merrily, I was completely alone.

It was then I decided to spill out my secret,

It left my lips, the effect was immediate.

It twisted and turned and suddenly it burned,

The secret, the wisp of smoke, moved on unconcerned.

I gave a shout and jumped out of the thicket,

Dodged trees and rocks to catch my secret.

Soon I came across a clear pond,

But my secret had travelled far beyond.

Crossing the pond, I came over to the meadow,

But the secret had floated along a path very narrow.

I walked down the path and into the orchard I sneaked,

When I felt something gentle, brush across my cheek.

The secret had escaped once more,

I followed it, as it made its way to the shore.

The seaside looked beautiful, even in a land so grey,

But I had to catch my secret, as it flitted away.

Suddenly, my hands closed onto the warm wisp of smoke,

As it evanesced from existence, into a smile my face broke.

The Sun had set, but my hopes never did,

I watched the gentle waves, the shore looking splendid.

I strode past the green meadow, orchards and the bay,

And into the woods, on the soft grass I lay.
