THE ORIGIN OF SIN - PART 6

Scene: Adam: and Eve: laying together, chatting. It is evening.

Eve:   I asked God about coverings for our bodies. It gets cold at night.

Adam:   What did he say?

Eve:   Nothing

   Are you happy here?

Adam:   The only place I know. Yeah, basically; not sure what my purpose is.

Eve:   To help me make babies.

Adam:   I understand that. There has to be more.

   Let’s say I impregnate you; you have a baby; what am I to do? I have no manual to refer to. How to look after you; what to do. God isn’t forthcoming at times. What else have you discussed with God?

Eve:   (thinks) All sorts of stuff. Did he have experience creating universes, animals, and humans? What are we here for? What is our purpose? When he created us, what did he put into us? Memories, experience. Learning? Then came the shock of the experience of my bleeding, only to find out that he could have told me in advance; but had “forgotten". Then you find out about having erections and having sex. Our last discussion was about morality (what is it) and our being moral beings. It was then that he brought up the subject of punishment.

Adam:   (listens, amazed) You have been busy.

Eve:   What have you been doing?

Adam:   Wandering around, awe-struck; there is so much life in this garden: it’s amazing! Then, I ask myself, what am I doing here? Yes, to facilitate population increase with you. The colours are so intense, so bright; they defy simple labels; demand a more complex use of language than we have.

Eve:   (looks at Adam:, thinks “he isn’t as shallow as I thought him to be’”)

   Why are you interested in examining the plants?

Adam:   One day, we are going to have to find out things for ourselves. What we can eat, What we should eat. What we can’t eat and why. There are the animals. Within the precincts of this garden, they are companionable. Outside these precincts, I don’t believe they would be. We are in God’s playground. There must be rules.

Eve:   (looks at Adam:, visibly impressed) I haven’t told you, I enjoyed cuddling with you, and your erections. I enjoy being with you, a lot!

Adam:   (surprised) You do? I enjoy you as well, all of you. You mentioned covering our bodies, especially at night. Do you have suggestions?

Eve:   Right now, cuddling you, no
