The New Year

The New Year

10

Right before our gaze, old year starts to fade,

Silent retreat into time's quiet shade.

Upon its lips, divine smile so slight,

Gleaning memories of shadow and light—

Joys and sorrows, honour and slight.

Through laughter and tears, triumph and defeat,

Where tides of life's ocean endlessly beat.

It harbors no anger, holds no regret,

In peace of completion, its sun has now set—

Merging forever where time's rivers meet.

New Year awakens with dreams in eyes,

As we offer love under vast, open skies.

To welcome the sun as it starts new climb,

We have swept shores of wandering mind—

To greet new dawn as old spirit dies.

But it has no beginning, has no end,

For time is phantom, trick of bend.

Soul is eternal, flow with no shore—

Are days, months, years not myth we adore?

Futile counting that we cannot defend.

All is shadow, all is in vain,

If darkness within continues to reign.

Yet, we welcome light of new-risen morn,

In eager anticipation, hearts are reborn—

Doors are flung open to break every chain.
