The Mirror Lied to Me

The Mirror Lied to Me

The mirror that shows the truth… lied to me,
It painted bright skies on my stormy sea.
It grinned with joy as my soul would sigh,
And never once asked me why I cry.

The mirror lied, it couldn’t see,
The storms that raged inside of me.

It showed my smile so wide, so bright,
While I drowned in tears every silent night.
It showed my heart bloomed in full delight,
When it thirsted for love, with no hope in sight.

The mirror lied, it couldn’t see,
The storms that raged inside of me.

It showed my strength, unshaken, bold—
When I was tired, fragile, cold.
It said I’m loved, a beneficiary’s fate,
But I stood alone at life’s locked gate.

The mirror lied, it couldn’t see,
The storms that raged inside of me.

It never caught my inner plea,
The gentle voice that whispered “me.”
But one day soon, I’ll rise, I’ll mend,
And teach the mirror how to bend.

Till then I search, till then I plea—
To find the truth that lives in me.
And when I do, I’ll calmly say,
“Now, dear mirror, reflect the right way.”
