The Lollipops
The Lollipops
When I was walking around the garden
A young boy running in a mad, mad frenzy
Bumped into me, and almost pushed me down
By the time I heard his word sorry, he was gone running,
I looked fascinated, at this boy running so madly, and
Catching the multicoloured butterflies buzzing around,
The butterflies kept on buzzing around everywhere
And he continued giggling, bursting with joy as a child
I noticed a strange sight, that many men approached him
Stopped near him, and were offering him a few lollipops
As I wonder about this offer, I was truly, too shocked to see
I found the boy offering something in exchange, from his bag
Without hesitation, with a broad smile, he gave them all
My curiosity getting the better of me, I walked and went closer
To watch, what was that he offered in return, for these lollipops
Strange and stranger was the sight, as my eyes discovered
A huge bag of precious gems, sparkling, blinding the eyes
Yes, he possessed, a bag loaded with many of these gems but
Was too innocent of his boundless fortune of wealth
And he was ready to exchange the gems for a few lolly pops.
Strange exchange, of this boy’s innocence, of his abundant value
He continued to throw away his gems with a boundless joy
As the world offered lollipops he danced gleefully satisfied
Scattering his precious gems, catching butterflies that buzzed.
I stood watching helpless, as my heart could only weep
How could I help this innocent boy with his peculiar worth?
I am a stranger, little do I know about his heart or language
Oh, God!! Give him, the crown due to him, that he richly deserves
Yes, this is the reality everywhere in the world today
There are these innocent boys with unimaginable talent
The cunning people take it away for their precise credit
While the little boys are happy with the offered lollipops
