The Impostor
The Impostor
I am no hero never tried to be.
I had no idols to admire
'Cause I knew we're all decaying organisms
Living on borrowed time.
I have a bad habit
Of reading in-between the lines
Trying to interpret words, phrases, tonality
Until they fit my delusions of grandeur.
They say being married lets you achieve
Great things in the world
That love transforms us from beasts
To human beings.
Well after you've broken the trust
Of almost everyone you've ever known
I wonder whether you can even believe in yourself
When you're convinced that every inch of your body is fake
That you're an impostor
A neutral, social chameleon
Camouflaging to hunt your prey
Because hurting people is the only
Connection to reality you Feel.
