The Ebullient Squirrel
The Ebullient Squirrel
And as the lad tried to chase an ebullient squirrel up the tree,
It bounded off and leapt from branch to branches on its tiny feet,
Its furry tail swaying with the gentle breeze.
Evading the senses of the lad, the squirrel raced through the leaves of the tree
In its quest of a nut, only to find the tree already taken over by
Its fellow mates, all nuts grabbed and devoured and hidden by them.
The disheartened squirrel then retraced its path away from the leaves and down the trunk
Only to encounter the lad it had so vehemently escaped.
Glancing at the lad with obvious shock, the flabbergasted squirrel saw a handful of the same nuts within his grasp,
It treaded cautiously and with a bit of trepidation,
As the lad beckoned it to have some nuts as its supper.
Filling its cheeks with hopes of a nice dinner, the squirrel was grateful,
And if it could, would thank the magnanimous lad in profusion.
The herd of deer sat on the rocks not far away and watched the entire encounter,
With amusement filling their senses.
The ebullient squirrel, now truly ecstatic and satiated, sauntered off gaily
To bury the nuts, a few to be forgotten.
