Shadows From Light

A free-verse poem in rhymes as a response to the word prompt “shadow”

Shadows run on the walls and on the floors,

Hide and seek with sunbeams and in a night moonlit.

Two or ten or thousands fuse and borderlines refuse,

Free, just as one, they dance and fly for our fun.

Shadows never leave and we’ll never them seize.

Shadows gray to see, but everlasting whatever will be;

When all is black, shadows go where no one knows.

Somber daughters of the light that dwell in the night,

In the dark, laid and black, you haunt us, for the heck!

Shadows as our double to dread when in life we stumble.

Shadows playful under the sun, but spooky in a night run;

Unannounced, sneak in as an ephemeral appearing.

Perturbing obscure sprite, but born from the light.

Your grim shadow please don’t shun, but bring it in the sun:

Shadows are children’s joyful chase as light enlivens all with grace.
