Ramblings

Ramblings

For a thousand years,

I am sitting in the deck of this broken ship.

Waves lap on her mossy flanks,

Mermaids flit through her sunken bones.

The tide shall come after dusk,

And fishes shall come to dance.

The oarsmen have told me,

The ship only sails when it feeds upon moonlight.

They have no task save unmooring the ship;

Secretly in the dead of the night,

To let her escape towards an ancient journey.

The moon leaps into the blue sea and disappears in the gaudy cabin.

Inside, the piano laughs,

A wild voice sings a wilder song,

Bodies sway to the rhythm like kelp under the sea.

The old forlorn ship shimmers with the light of a hundred candles.

The white sails shudder with an unchaste passion.

Pillars gleam on a faraway bridge.

A seagull shrieks to the dead sky.

And as I turn away from all these ramblings to look at you,

I see not you but your mirage sitting before me.

Streams run down your hair,

Millennia of June rain embrace you.

The deck of my ship is awash with mist;

All songs and all light have vanished in it.

But then, I behold with joy;

Deep in the cold waters of the abyss,

Your sad feet tremble,

You travel to me like the morning light.
