Painting of God
Painting of God
Why am I alone?
Walking on a vacant path,
With a starving stomach
And an empty soul.
Looking at the full moon retreat,
With no destination in mind,
I wander afar.
Watching my plight,
Gloomy in the morning twilight,
Here comes the soft drizzle
And the gentle breeze,
To soothe my aching feet.
Refreshing petrichor fills my senses,
Dewy greens calm my mind.
My gaze fixed on the glowing sunrise,
I stumble over a pebble
And fall flat staring at the sky.
Only to witness the vibrant beam of colours,
Like the forgotten memories of my faded life.
I want to go up to the heavens
To soak up the intense aurora,
And wrap myself in the nuances of the spirited hues.
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet,
And that rare Indigo made me stand up and marvel,
At the splendid, Painting of God!
Lost in this mirage,
I walk a few miles.
Watching the city wake up
To the tunes of daylight.
Melody in my ears,
I am drawn into a lane,
Brimming with myriad hues,
Soft lingering fragrance of marigolds,
And the beating of drums.
Colour smeared faces dancing around,
Grooving to the music of RangBarse,
Sprinkling colours on one another,
Fun and frolic filled their world.
I dive deep into the madness,
Balloons and pichkaris flung everywhere
Flowing colours on my hair.
Still alone, amid the frenzied crowd,
Heart pounding and hands sweaty.
A handful of colours splash my sun-kissed face,
My white scarf, drenched in Gulal.
I see a glimpse of him, effulgent in Blue
As he blends into the flock, playing the flute,
I stand there amazed at his eternal grace.
A bunch of kids sprays my face
And drop a bagful of colours,
For me to splash and swash the world around.
Then the saga of vibrancy ensues,
The fiery Red kisses the calming Blue
And there emerges the mystic tint of Purple.
Flowed in, the happiness of Yellow blends into the love of Red,
And the bravery of Blue, gracing me with sacred Saffron
Along with delightful Green for new beginnings.
With affinity and love, people kept pouring in,
They fed me sweets with a warm embrace,
Leaving a contagious smile on my painted face.
Now, I am one among them,
No more fear of being alone.
I stare at my reflection in a pool of water,
I see the Painting of God,
The spirited rainbow of love, joy and prosperity.
I play like a child and dance with joy
Through a whirlwind of colours,
Celebrating my inner self.
As I wish myself,
A very Happy Holi!
