On A Rainy Day
On A Rainy Day
I remember the rain
Cold heavy pouring down
As I traced the crystal beads of water
That slowly slid over my window panes
Trying and failing to keep up
And the sweet smell of wet earth
I watched through the haze of the heavy rain
The newly painted walls of my house
Turning a darker shade of red
And the sheer joy of staying home
While I should have been at school
My nose buried in some boring book
The cup of hot tea that my mother poured in my favourite blue mug
And the blanket which she wrapped around me
The warmth of her as we snuggled in a cosy chair
Watching the rain pour, hammering endlessly against our roof
I remember now, as the rain drags on
Cold heavy pouring down
And there are no walls to watch them darken
Nobody to snuggle in a cosy chair
No child left to marvel at the drops that splatter
