MY YELLOW SHIRT
MY YELLOW SHIRT
MY YELLOW SHIRT!
I rarely select bright colours
On my friend's insistence, I bought one
A bit shy to wear the radiant shade
One day I dared to adorn this bright attire
Walking among the crowds
I felt everyone turning their heads
My walk became untidy
I was stopping at the corners looking around for a respite
Suddenly a warm hand held my arm
Shocked at the incident
My eyes rolled out in surprise
She was a beautiful lady almost all my age
Not looking into my eyes
She began to drag me to her side
Like a frightened fawn
I began to struggle trying to escape from her hold
A few feet away a man stood smiling
He too was wearing the same bright colour
The woman a kangaroo for sure talking to me something to my deaf ears
Saw the man smiling
As if a high voltage shock delivered
She jumped far away from me
Looking towards me
Shell shocked her
Started to apologise profusely
I am sorry, really sorry are the words that I could hear
The smiling man took her into his arms
Her cheeks exploded pink
Startled I
Never dared to wear the yellow again
Still, it emits her fragrance, and my dumb-struck brain
Hanging helplessly from the hangers in my deep cupboards
