MOTHER

MOTHER

Mother,

You wake up before I do

You clean and wash me before I can do it on my own

You feed me, you clothe me

You love me unconditionally

When I’m down or hurt inside

there you will be with a coffee to brighten up my day,

When I’m scared, if ghosts hiding in the dark

there you will be beside me, holding on until I’m asleep

with your sweet voice you sing a lullaby

it gives a simple reassurance for me while you stand guard,

When I’m ill you always know

that my best medicine is you, holding me in your arms

your breasts give me a certainty that I would be all right,

You become my shield and sword when I need protection

I feel save under your wings,

Mother

I see through you

Kindness, humble, humanity, wisdom, knowledge

and courage when you defend me if any injustice befalls,

Mother

You are what you are

Sometimes a housewife, at times working mother

A single mother, a strict and disciplinarian mother

A sex worker, an addict, an abused mother, step mother

A poor and destitute mother,

you walk a hundred miles with me

tie me up in a bundle

carry me at you back wherever you go

foraging food, water, satisfying hunger,

Mother,

Your eyes are full of tears,

your heart races whenever you think of me

when i am not by your side,

You sacrifice, sacrifice a million things just for me,

not even God can measure your love for me

Mother

An inspiration,

You are like a light of an evening star

Shining brightly in a dim world.
