Monsoon Delight

Still, remember those liberties 

That monsoon used to give us 

When in school and reaching late

And if it's pouring outside then

No punishment no questions

Didn't have to give an excuse for not 

wearing school uniform, shoes 

The care we used to take of books

Covering it with plastic bags 

If still got wet the corner of the book/ notebook

Then dry it under the fan 

Sharing umbrella /raincoat with friends/siblings

Stopping at the small railway station on the way if it's raining heavily

Catch the bus and reach home all wet

Mother waiting with anxiety for us at home giving instructions to us 

If sneezing by getting wet in rainwater

' Change your uniform fast and dry your hair with a towel " 

And then that tasty warm lunch was a relief

Using rough notebook pages making the boat 

taking help from elders in making a boat

Keeping them floating on water 

was like a boating race amongst us

Jumping on rainwater on the road 

Irritating a friend by blowing water 

Terrace visit after stopping of rain

To take delight in the rainbow in the sky

To enjoy the beautiful view around

Greenery, flowers, small forest

That was behind the colony's boundary Wall 

Buffaloes swimming in the pond 

Birds floating on water catching insects small fishes 

Beautiful Lotus flowers blossomed in the pond 

Nostalgic memories of monsoon season

And celebrations of various festivals

' worshipping Manglagaur by newly married girls, Haritalika by all ladies

getting ready in new clothes, fasting the whole day, 

Playing outdoor - indoor games till midnight

' Ganesh Utsav ' celebrated for ten days

Gatherings, games competitions, open theatre movies program in the colony 

All that enthusiasm and joys and happiness this season brings with it 

Just remarkable and unforgettable !!!!
