MONEY THE MOST INDISPENSABLE PART OF LIFE
We all know the value of money, there is no denying the fact money is the be all and end all of our existence. Money plays a vital role and the biggest part in making or breaking us. Though for the people with age old thoughts still thinks that money cannot buy you happiness. But in today’s world it’s the other way around and I feel with my own personal experience that money is really a biggest source of strength in our lives. Beyond the basic needs, money helps us achieve our life's goals and supports — the things we care about most deeply — family, education.
Money can give us the power to make a difference in the lives of others, but not the desire to do. It can give us the time to develop and nurture our relationships, but not the love and caring necessary to do. It is keeping these two questions in mind that gives us a true sense of money's relationship to happiness. If we have less than what we need, or if what we have is too much for us, we can never be happy.
This platform has provided me with the right opportunity to share my experience of life with my fellow friends, that how money played the biggest role in turning our lives. Our relationships are the most important things in the world. They're the most crucial factor for happiness and, in combination with your calling, tend to be our reasons to live. For most, family is at the top of the list in terms of values and priorities. Here also in this story I tell you about how money helped us to save the life of the most dear person in our lives who otherwise would have gone long before we could have imagined. He is no other than my dear father Mr. R. S. Singhal whose son, me will tell you about the strange incident that took place in our life some twenty years back.
The story is about my own life and is the real life story that speaks of my own personal experience through the course of life. Life can be so sudden and unpredictable, you just cannot say what will happen the next moment in your life. The least you can expect from life is actually not to expect anything but let it go with a flow in its own natural way. So that, it becomes a great lesson for us to learn from some instances in our lives leave a long lasting impression and make us a much better human being. The story that I am sharing with you all is the real life incident that happened when I was still a student in a school. Some two decades ago. It goes back to the days when I was still a student in a school in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh. Where my father was posted in the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department, as Pachmarhi is the most sought after tourist spot in M.P. The days were running smoothly in our lives, it was all fun and mirth everywhere. Me, my father, mother and younger sister were one close knit family who were bound to each other in the thread of love. My younger sister was the apple of my eyes. I use to dote on her, for everything. It was spring time in the month of February and we were preparing for our final exams which were to take place in March. I was in ninth standard and my sister was in fifth, we both use to study together in one room, sometimes I use to guide her in her studies. My mother use to take care of us and provide us with tea and hot water from time to time.
This time was in the late nineties around 1998-99. My father was on a road trip to Khujaraho with a group of foreigners who had come to visit India from Sweden in Europe. They all were a part of the large group of visitors who were being taken to the main tourist spots in Madhya Pradesh – the land of mystique and adventure. Being the organizer of the entire adventure trip, my father took the center stage and arranged for everyone’s comfort.
All was pretty fine, suddenly in the evening we received the news that the mini bus they were travelling in met with a major accident on road to Damoh. We were shattered. My mother become numb as she got to know that father was in hospital battling for his life. He had to undergo a major operation as his left side had majorly got hit in the accident. The ribs were crushed and there was a grave danger to his lungs. We didn’t know what to do. For that we needed around 8 lakh Rupees immediately to support the expenses. My maternal uncle pitched in some money but that amounted to only 2 lakhs. Rest 6 lakhs were still needed. I had suddenly become very serious and just wanted to help my mother in hour of need. I was living inside the house but with a heavy heart. My mind was elsewhere. I could understand the pain which my mother was going through. Every hour, every second was crucial for us as my father was in a critical state. He had to undergo multiple surgeries to be back to life again. We tried reaching out to all our friends and acquaintances but nobody came out with a positive response.
I then went to a shopkeeper who supplied household goods to our house. I told him that my mother has asked for some help, he was a very kind generous man who listened to me patiently and assured me of timely help. He told me not to worry too much and reassured my faith in almighty that he would definitely get us out of this precarious situation. He will definitely find a way to help us in this time of need. He asked me for a day and said he would get back to me on Wednesday as it was Tuesday today. Seeing lot of assurance and good will in his eyes. I said “yes” to him. He embraced me and patted me on the back. He went from shop to shop asking his fellow shopkeepers to donate for a noble cause, as this gesture of theirs would save the life of a dying man who is the father of two young children. Seeing his strong determination, everybody gave Rs. 25,000/-, some gave Rs. 10,000/- each, some even donated 50,000/-. This ways he was able to raise around Rs. 5,00,000/- lakhs rupees for my father’s operation. The next day in the morning he reached out to my mother and me and handed over the entire sum to us. With tears in my eyes, I had no words to thank him for this timely help. I touched his feet to show respect, he asked me and my mother to not waste any more time and reach the hospital as soon as possible. So that money can be deposited in time. We went to the hospital and deposited the money at the counter and requested doctor to start the operation as soon as possible. Doctor was very prompt in his action, he started with the operation without wasting any more time. He told us that not to worry too much as god is great. After a battle of 7 hours, we finally got to hear the news that father was out of danger but will remain in hospital for another 15 days. We thanked God. This past one week was like a nightmare. We reached home had some tea and sat back for our studies. All along I was thinking what would have happened if father could not be brought back to life. It reassured my faith in god all the more. I was happy for him and eagerly waited for his homecoming. And finally he did on the 25th of February. My father is a strong man, he did all that was required of him to get back on his foot again. Maintaining proper diet and exercising regularly. Within a period of two months, he was back to his normal self. We were all so happy for him.
Two important lessons of life which this incident taught me was to believe in yourself and put your best in any situation, never run away from a situation. It certainly made me a much better person. And also God is great! He helps everyone. He disappoints no one. His ways of providing help can be strange but no one has ever got empty handed from his home. He is always there for us, in any shape, in any form. I am now a young man of 27, and working for a multinational company in Bengaluru. Whenever I tell my friends of this particular incident, they are all left awestruck at the grit and determination of my father to come back to life. My father now an old man in his sixties still lives with this miraculous escape to life in his heart. I love him and wish him the best.
about the power of money that cannot be neglected no matter how much we try to shove it.
