Just why?

Why do we see,

Asked my mind one day.

Why do we have this power of sight?

Why do we need this gift called eyes?

We need our eyes, i said in reply,

To see the wonders this earth provides,

The colours of the rainbow,

The beauty, of the glittering skies.

The view of the setting sun,

And the beauty of human smiles.

Why do we breathe?

Questioned my mind one night.

Why do we have the power to smell,

When we can simply use our sight?

We breathe, I said in reply,

To take in the smell of fruits ripe.

The smell of our favourite pies,

The flowers that bloom in spring,

the essence of roses all bright.

Why do we hear? 

Asked my mind one day,

Why do we have the power to listen,

Why do we need to feel this sensation? 

We hear, i said in reply,

To take in the sounds of all things nice.

The sounds of laughter late at nights,

The sounds of music,

the heavenly tunes that fill our minds.

Why do we live?

Asked my mind one day,

Why do we have to stay alive,

Why go through this pain all the time?

We live, I said in reply,

To learn and make mistakes with each try.

The support of friend and family by our side,

The circle of happiness and cry,

Is what keeps us all alive.
