I'll Come Down For You
I'll Come Down For You
The first time we met
I bumped into her
I couldn't see well in the rain
but the coffee left a stain
she didn't say anything as I apologized
I offered to get another cup
I thought she heard me, and I was forgiven
but she was staring off into space
'What are you staring at' I asked
'There is nothing but the clouds'
She stood there; coffee shirt soaked
I scrambled back inside, she opened her mouth
'Is anyone there?'
her voice echoed
'I thought I felt warm but
it's getting really cold'
I gently took her hand
and put it to my mouth
'I'm sorry' I mouthed
'For what?' she asked.
'For the warmth you felt'
'Never be sorry for that'
'Then for leaving you cold in the rain'
'it was raining. I couldn't see'
She told me how she
Spoke to the dark
to the grass, to the park
and to people who wouldn't answer
'I am blind and deaf to the world'
'But you are true to yourself'
'That is the kindest thing
anyone has said to me'
the next time I saw her
I gave her a coffee-stained shirt
and she told me she saw
the sky clearing in front of us
