Gratitude
Gratitude
Being grateful
For what we have
Is it so hard to do?
We want more
Bigger, brighter
Bouncier; do we
Think we deserve it?
We call it ambition
It is not. We call it hunger
For what we don’t have
Never asking,
“do we need it?”
Our brains filled with
“I want”, “ I demand”
They have one
I want one too
One that is
Bigger, brighter
Bouncier
More impressive
Until we tire of it
And it loses its novelty
It’s a choice we make
It’s a risk we take
To say, “Enough!”
“I have enough!”
I don't want, don't need
Any more. I have what
I need. What I have
Is enough.
Tell me why, please
Why do we have to wait
To admit this truth
Is it a surrender to age
Or the gift of wisdom?
