Final Phone Call

Final Phone Call

2 mins
289

After everything that had happened that fateful day,

He called her....

There was an awkward silence after the first 'Hello'

When they had said a grand 'Goodbye' ;

To come together again,

Even just on a phone call seemed unsettling.

He tried to initiate the conversation,

To bring things back on track

Regretting the 'pact' they made that fateful night!

She couldn't hold it together any more and said..

"Hey ...I gotta go ..or else I will miss the movie. ..and you know how is it ..."

He replied with an uncertainty,

"Yeah..."

She said with a 'fake' spunk of that of a radio jockey ...

"Wish I 'owned' the theatres ...ha-ha... bye"

*Call disconnected*

She sighed with sadness and longing ;

"It's you who I miss.....wish I could own you..."

Tears trickled down her cheeks which once was adorned by her smile...

The same smile 'He' used to bring on her face...

He put down his phone

Her photograph flickered from the screen saver...

He clutched his hands together,

Trying to hold back his tears...

"Guess it was easy for her to move on...!"

She pulled herself together...

And said to herself..

"Don't come across as needy my dear... stay strong... this too will pass.."

With that she broke down,

Crumpled on the cold hard bathroom floor

Toilet paper turned to tissue paper....

The kohl in her eyes could no longer withstand the flood erupting from her eyes...

Her face smeared in 'black ' where once there was a beautiful 'glow'!

He chucked his phone away....

Saying " This is the end..."

She flushed her phone away...

Saying " Why did it have to end..."
