East India Company & Indians

East India Company & Indians

In days of yore, when empires soared,

A tale unfolds of power adored.

A company, born of Britain's might,

Set sail to conquer lands in sight.

East India Company, its name renowned,

For riches sought on foreign grounds.

With sails unfurled, their ships did glide,

To distant shores where treasures hide.

From London's shores, a quest began,

To forge an empire, vast and grand.

With merchants shrewd and captains bold,

They ventured forth, their tales are untold.

In India's realm, they cast their gaze,

To reap the wealth that legends praise.

With cunning trade and iron will,

They rose to power, and their coffers fill.

They built great factories by the bay,

Where spices danced and silks did sway.

Tea and opium, coveted wares,

Their profits grew, beyond all cares.

Yet, with their might, came darker days,

As greed and conquest cast their haze.

The land once free now felt the chains,

Of foreign rule and brutal reigns.

From Bengal's fields to Delhi's gates,

The Company's grip sealed fates.

Wealth flowed but at a heavy cost,

As lives were lost and empires lost.

But as the years went rolling by,

The tide began to change, oh my!

Revolt and discontent did rise,

Challenging Britain's enterprise.

Through struggle, nations found their voice,

Demanding freedom, a rightful choice.

The Company's reign was brought to a close,

As Britain grappled with new throes.

Though history tells of a tumultuous tale,

Of conquest, greed, and fortunes pale,

We learn from the past, with a cautious gaze,

To forge a future of kinder ways.

Let's remember, as we ponder still,

The legacy left upon the hill.

East India Company, a chapter old,

Reminds us how power can unfold.

In Britain's pursuit of a global role,

Lessons learned to shape the soul.

May unity and justice be unfurled,

As we navigate a changing world.
