Coming To Terms With Old Age

Is it not strange that we behave with old and aged parents,

As if we will not see the same period in our life,

We feel that they are an intrusion though they are part of us,

They gave us life, held our hands, guiding

Us in our confusion.

Now it's our turn to do the same, but we feel they are an intrusion.

They are frightened to tell us of their fears,

They cry silently not showing us their tears,

We should understand they are old in age, which is reborn infancy.

But we think they are in the throes of lunacy.

We treat them like they are some caricature.

Worse still, some treat them like they

Part of the furniture.

It's time we show them the same 

Patience they showed us,

Imagine if they had at that time thrown us under the bus,

What would have been our fate,

We have been referred to as mister late.

They did not because they loved us always,

 Nurtured us, tutored us, fed us patiently

All those days.

Now they have turned old, for nobody is free from old age.

We too one day will come to that stage.

Then if your child will behave in the same

Way,

Memories of your parents will come to haunt you every day.

You will also shed silent tears. 

But your children will not see your fears.
